Case Study: Sydney Fish Market

Cox Inall is a long-term provider of strategic communications advice, public relations and media expertise and big-event know-how to the Sydney Fish Market (SFM) and its retailers.

As the largest fish market in the Southern Hemisphere, SFM is the premier destination for purchasing and enjoying the freshest seafood. Retail operations are just one part of the SFM business and its role as a seafood industry leader.

We ensure SFM’s consumer-facing activities at peak times – Christmas and Easter – attract the publicity that drives traffic and ultimately, retail sales.  Due to its proximity to major Sydney and national media, it’s often the backdrop for seafood industry stories.

We also provide ongoing strategic advice and issues management on sustainability, marine parks and redevelopment issues, and promote SFM’s leadership on industry issues and their support for consumption of underutilised species.

Cox Inall delivers media training for spokespeople from the SFM and seafood retailers operating in the market precinct.


Results

  • Significantly increased SFM media coverage for key Christmas and Easter consumer campaigns. Coverage achieved for one event was five times that achieved for the same event the previous year.
  • Enhanced SFM’s preparedness for media and stakeholder engagement on contentious issues, by proactive issues management and media training.
  • Achieved targeted publicity on underutilised species to educate consumers, by devising creative ways to promote facts about seafood choices.
